Antidepressant Skills Workbook

The Antidepressant Skills Workbook is the new version of the Self-Care Depression Program. It gives an overview of depression, explains how it can be effectively managed according to the best available research, and gives a step-by-step guide to changing patterns that trigger depression. In this self-care guide, we show how to use cognitive and behavioural methods to make important changes in thinking and actions that help one to emerge from depression and make it less likely to recur. These methods can be used in combination with depression treatments, increasing their effectiveness. Note that for most people with serious depression, use of this self-help guide alone will not be sufficient to resolve the depression. People with serious depression should obtain treatment with antidepressant medication or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

The document is 76 pages long. You might want to save it, then print off sections as needed.

Dealing with Depression: Antidepressant Skills for Teens

Dealing with Depression is a workbook for teens that explains depression and teaches three antidepressant skills you can use to help overcome or prevent it. The skills are presented in a step-by-step way so you can learn them easily and apply them to your life. Sometimes these antidepressant skills can be used on their own, when the mood problem isn't too severe, and sometimes they have to be used along with treatments by professionals. Either way, practicing these antidepressant skills will help you deal more effectively with low mood and depression.

3 ways to use this book:

1. Download it to your computer. You'll need Adobe Reader. (If you don't have that program, download it free from http://www.adobe.com/reader/) Then, download Dealing with Depression from the link below. You'll be able to read it over, send copies to your friends, whatever. But some parts of the book ask you to write things down -- use a notebook or journal for the writing parts.

2. Print a copy. Once you download the file, this is easy. But notice that the book is pretty long, about 67 pages, so you might want to print it in sections, as you read each part. If your printer does double-sided printing, that will make the book easier to carry around; if it prints in colour, that's even better.

3. Save a "writable" version of the manual. Some people prefer to use this book on their computer, including the writing parts. So, to use this, you will need to have Acrobat Reader 6 or 7 (download it from Adobe from the link above). If you open the DWD file with it, you'll be able to use the book, write in it and save what you've done on your computer. That way, you can use the book totally without ever having to print a copy.
